24 Apr. – 7 May: Insight Retreat with Ven. Antonio Satta

ven-antonio-mahamudra-april-may-2017Mahamudra Centre is pleased to welcome back Venerable Antonio Satta for the 2017 Insight Retreat: Shamata, Vipassana and Basic Mahamudra 24 April – 7 May.

Insight meditation is a practice based on sati (mindfulness), directed to generate a clear awareness of the mind/body process, through which the three marks or characteristics of life – unsatisfactoriness, impermanence/instability, and non-self – are understood.

This 2-week retreat in the peaceful atmosphere of the Coromandel valley offers the opportunity to train the mind, particularly in the practice of sila (discipline): the cooling factor that silences the mind, and reduces confusion.

The first two days are for settling and easing into retreat, with evening public talks on the life of the Buddha to help set the tone for the mind. Otherwise the first few days of meditation are wasted trying to adjust from travel and a new environment. Then the following ten days are a combination of sitting and walking meditation with evening teachings. The retreat finishes with breakfast on Sunday the 7th, allowing time in the day for travel and transition back to being engaged with daily life. To attend the retreat, you must attend all days and sessions (no late arrivals).

As an important part of this retreat, participants will be required to keep strict silence, stay on the retreat grounds, and refrain from outside contact (including use of cell phones and electronic devices, which must be handed into the office for the duration of the retreat). Students will need to complete an application form to be screened to make sure they have the pre-requisites to be accepted into the retreat.

This retreat is one of our most popular, so register early to get your choice of accommodation!

Costs

The below special package price includes accommodation, facility fee, and meals starting with dinner at 6:00pm on 24th through breakfast on 7th. Additional meals and nights can be added at the normal rate. It is always helpful to allow yourself time both at the beginning and end of an intensive retreat for transitioning in and out of a faster-paced daily routine. This is also a strict retreat, so to attend you need to be able to arrive on time and stay for the whole retreat.

Rooms are available on a first-come basis, and we will confirm arrangements with you before a deposit is due. For the Chenrezig cabin and any of the shared rooms, you can register as one person and we’ll book you a roommate.
