Tuesdays in June – 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th NZST 6.30 – 8.00 pm-

Learn, enhance and deepen the formal practice of meditation.

Would you like to control your thoughts and emotions and have stable inner peace & happiness? Then this course is for you. Through the practice of meditation we learn how to take care of our minds, how to reduce our inner turmoil and engage in our life activities with more sensitivity and clarity. By learning what the mind is and how it works, we will be able to train it and develop positive and constructive mental states.

Meditations

The meditations will be guided and focused firstly on mindfulness of the breath, gradually moving to being mindful of mental activity and moving even subtler inwardly to being mindful of awareness of awareness. We will be applying the Buddhist technique of Calm Abiding.

Theory & weekly assignments for the application of the practice in our daily lives

The course will include a component of theory & weekly assignments where the following subjects will be cover & encouraged to practice:

  • What is the mind & it’s potential
  • Calm abiding technique
  • Mindfulness of our motivations
  • Emotional Intelligence
  • Thought transformation through compassion & wisdom

This course will allow participants to build a regular meditation practice and provide tools to continue the development of their mind training during their daily lives.

In these sessions you will be guided to  focus first on the breath, gradually moving to being mindful of mental activity and moving even subtler inwardly to being mindful of awareness of awareness. This retreat will grant participants a structure to follow, thereby assisting them to continue with their practice. 

 

 

We are asking those taking part in the online sessions to please consider making offerings to the Centre, the suggested amount is $10 per session, but  we do not wish financial hardship to be a barrier to you taking part in the teachings. All offerings given according to your means are very much appreciated,  assisting the centre to host teachers to support you in your Dharma practice.

What is Karma?

Tuesdays  in July – 7th, 14th, 21st & 28th July @ NZST 6.30pm to 8pm

Understand the Buddhist view of the law of cause & effect & apply this knowledge to your daily activities.

Karma/mental intention is what creates our experiences and decisions and based on that our activities of body, speech and mind. During this course we will explore the inner works and science of the mind, how it behaves and why. “Karma is something that anyone wishing for happiness and not wanting suffering should understand & protect” –Lama Zopa Rinpoche.

Meditation

The course will have a component of mindfulness meditations focused on the breath.

  • Mind science & mental intentions
  • General characteristics of karma
  • Varieties of karma
  • Karmic results
  • Purification & antidotes

Death & Rebirth

Tuesdays in August – 4th, 11th, 18th & 25th August @ NZST 6.30pm to 8pm

Explore the Buddhist philosophy of death and reincarnation & apply it for a meaningful/peaceful life and death

Usually we do not like to think about death, but if we want to die peacefully and be free of fear, we need to be prepared for it when it happens. The Buddhist view is that the mind is a continuum and after death there will be other lives, this course will explain this system of death & reincarnation.

Meditation

The course will have a component of mindfulness meditations focused on the breath.

Theory & weekly assignments for the application of this knowledge in our daily activities

The course will cover the following topics based on which weekly contemplation’s will be encouraged:

  • Continuum of mind
  • Impermanence & death
  • Death dissolution’s & process
  • Reincarnation
  • Living a meaningful life

Your Teacher

Ven Thubten Khadro was born in Venezuela of European parents, emigrated to a New Zealand in 2004, and has lead courses/retreats in NZ, Australia, Colombia, India, Nepal and Germany. Her “international” background allows her to have an open, friendly and warm manner. She is currently studying an online Master Programme in Buddhist Philosophy, has done many solo retreats and for some months of the year lives in semi-retreat at Lawudo, a hermitage in the Himalayas, Nepal. She is a Buddhist Hospice/ Healthcare Chaplain, a FPMT registered teacher, and has served in various FPMT Centers.
