Roy Fraser

Roy first engaged in Buddhist practice during a retreat with Lama Zopa Rinpoche at Lauwdo near Mount Everest in the Himalayas in 1980. He was so inspired by the teachings offered he returned to New Zealand determined to establish a centre to make the teachings available in New Zealand. Following Lama Yeshes advice he established Mahamudra Centre and was Director until 2001. During this time Roy was able to offer service to FPMT as Chairperson of CPMT from 1988 to 1993 during which time many of the current processes were added including a Central Office and regionalization of the rapidly developing organization. At Lama Zopas request he also organized the first visit to New Zealand of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. In 2008 Roy went to Mongolia where he worked for 8 years as centre and project coordinator of several centres and projects.

During this time Roy has been very fortunate to receive many teachings from some of the great Lamas of the era along with completing many retreats both solo and group. He has had lead a number of retreats and taught several series of Introduction to Buddhism classes.
